About Mrs. McKinley:

Lauren McKinley is a 1999 graduate of Sullivan High School and a 2002 Graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Middle School Social Studies.  Over the years, she has taught second grade at Graysville Elementary, sixth grade at Sullivan Elementary, and she currently teaches fourth grade at Carlisle Elementary.

“I am so excited to be teaching at the school that my children attend, in the community that I live in, and at the school that I attended as well! Carlisle Elementary and Middle School feels like home to me and that is because ALL of the staff and students are so amazing!” she explained. “Teaching fourth grade math and science is so much fun, and I am over the moon with excitement about teaching Indiana History this year!”

What she enjoys about teaching:

“I have wanted to be a teacher since second grade, because my teacher made going to school so much fun!” she explained. “I have had the opportunity to learn how to teach from so many amazing teachers, including my mom, Peggy Ridgway, who also teaches at Carlisle Middle School.”

“Having fun while learning is important to me, so I try to be creative in how I present learning opportunities in my class,” said Mrs. McKinley.  “I was very fortunate to have so many wonderful teachers that made learning enjoyable, and I hope to pass on a love of learning to my students the way my teachers did for me.”

She added, “I love to challenge my students to try new things and it is so exciting to watch students have that ‘light bulb’ moment when I can tell that they just learned something new!”

How she spends her free time:

Mrs. McKinley is actively involved in the community and enjoys spending time with her family. “When I am not teaching you will find me running my children around to their numerous activities and cheering them on at everything that they do!” she said. “My family and I attend Shaker Prairie Christian Church in Carlisle, and I also have been very active with the Carlisle PTO for many years, and that continues to be something that I spend a lot of time working on in my spare time.”

Mrs. McKinley also serves as the secretary of the Carlisle Summer League Baseball/Softball board. She can often be found coaching, cleaning, or working the concession stand in the spring and summer. She also enjoys baking, cake decorating, reading, crafting and gardening.
